For over a year, CMTCA has been working on revisions to the accreditation standards for massage therapy education in Canada. Guided by our expert Standards Review Committee, the intent was to improve the accreditation process and ultimately the quality of massage therapy education by clarifying criteria that were challenging to interpret or apply, and by adding or amending others to reflect leading or best practices in the massage therapy profession and in educational practice.
The process included extensive consultation with education programs, surveyors, regulators, associations, board members, and staff, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all involved for your thoughtful input and ongoing support. Your willingness to engage with and find a resolution to sometimes difficult issues has been instrumental in improving the standards and, ultimately, the quality of massage therapy education in Canada.
After all that hard work, we are pleased to announce that the CMTCA Accreditation Standards for Massage Therapy Education Programs in Canada (2024) are now available. Effective October 15, 2024, the 2024 version will replace the current standards.
Implementation Date: October 15, 2024
The 2024 standards will come into effect on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. This means that Preliminary Accreditation reviews and site visits that are scheduled to take place on or after October 15 will be based on the 2024 standards.
Reviews and site visits that are scheduled to take place before October 15 will be based on the current version.
